Fishing Reports

CJ Strike: Smallmouth fishing has been good. It’s been a bit of a bottom game with baits like ned rigs, tubes and drop shots. Crappie fishing remains steady in the narrows with small crankbaits and curly tail grubs tipped with crappie nibbles or Pautzke fireballs.

Boise River: Fishing remains very steady on the Boise. Ultralight Heavyweights jigs and mayfly nymphs have been very productive! I have seen a few Chinook pics as well. Try a spinner or small fluke style bait on a small jig head.

Brownlee: Harmful Algae Bloom advisory in effect for Brownlee and Hells Canyon Reservoirs. Water levels are 2058 - down 19 feet. Catfishing remains very good. They are starting to spread out and aren’t all so shallow. You’ll find them in 5 to 30’ of water. Bass fishing has been decent for smaller fish. What they lack in size they make up for in willingness to hit a lot of baits. Try a Ned rig with a Z Man Big TRD or a Gary Posten skirted jig with a Bunker Baits Paratrooper trailer for bigger fish.

Swan Falls - Above the Dam: Fishing remains good on this stretch of the river. Crayfish style baits are working.

Swan Falls - Below the Dam: Stureon fishing has been decent with cut bait right below the dam. Catfishng has been productive as well. Bass fishing remains steady. I’d take a look at a 3.3 Keitech with a belly weighted hook texas rigged to keep you out of the weeds a bit more.

Wilson Springs: Tough fishing due to weed cover. There is still clear water though and fish can be caught on nightcrawlers and small tube jigs.

Lake Lowell: Catfishing along the dams and sandy beach areas has been pretty darn good. Bass fishing remains steady. Topwater frogs and creature baits flipped on ¾ to 1oz tungsten weights has been working. Try a Zoom Trench Hawg…

Lake Cascade: Not many reports this week from Cascade but an Idaho Rod and Reel Ambassador caught some decent smallies dragging a tube. Smaller perch are being caught close to rock piles along the bank. Keep an eye on this place as the temps start to cool down!

Owyhee River: Fly guys have been catching them on Zebra midges and small nymphs in between hatches. Customer caught several fish using several different styles of Ultralight Heavyweight jigs.

Owyhee Reservoir: No report this week on the bass fishing. Crappie fishing remains fair but guys are reporting that they are moving quite a bit to find them. Small curly tail grubs and Z man baits have been very productive.

Duck valley: No report this week.

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Reports of a few fish still coming in but it’s been tough for sure if you’re looking for Kokanee.

Arrowrock Reservoir: Like Lucky Peak, reports of catches are still coming in. The pics that have been texted to me are of fish that are pretty darn red. Still bunches of trout being caught though!

Anderson Ranch: Same report more or less as Arrowrock and LP. Few customers have asked about bass fishing here - it’s been fair for small fish but been a tough season for bass here overall. If you are interested in catching some decent bass - this would be low on my list right now.

Local Ponds: Tough to fish in most cases because of the lack of open water but if you are pond hopping – that’s exactly what you are looking for – open water with an accessible weed edge would be a great place to launch your baits. Trout stocking will start to pick up as the weather cools.

Snake River - Catfishing: Catfishing is really good right now! Find some clean water and you can bet there will be a cat nearby. Cut baits and chicken in kool aid have been the tickets.
