Fishing Reports

CJ Strike: Reports were that CJ just fished tough this week. Several windy days and some crazy weather I’m betting had a little something to do with that 😉 ! If I had to guess - this week is going to be a good one for fishing. ESPECIALLY the end of the week. For the bass fishing, we should be able to start playing around shallower with jerkbaits, crankbaits and lipless baits. While the red colored cranks are a great choice, I wouldn’t discount firetiger patterns here. For crappie and trout, I’d troll if I could. Try Flicker shads, Salmo’s, Wedding Rings and Kokabow bugs and spinners. Sturgeon fishing has been really good and I really don’t think that is going to change for a bit. There are bank accesses to the main lake but they are tricky to find. Use Google Earth…

Boise River: If you can afford it, the Lucky Craft Pointer 65 has just flat been catching them. Its a high end Japanese mini Jerkbait and it is just plain deadly on trout!!

Brownlee: Water levels are at 2038.4 - down 7 feet from last week. Really low right now! Fished tough last week with the dropping water and cooler temps and winds but I am betting on a serious rebound this week. Let’s go with a drop shot and Keitech to do our deeper work and 8-12’ diving red, orange, chartreuse crankbaits and lipless. You will likely find some good sized schools of crappie with this dropping water…small underspins and most soft plastics tipped with a crappie nibble will get the job done. If you want some fun…throw a 2.8 Keitech and you’ll add some smallmouth to your catch! Always fun to test the drag on your ultralight a bit 🤪 !

Snake River: Shop manager Brian Purtell had a really nice day on the river with a Strike King Dream Shot on his drop shot rod. I would expect the bite on the river to be solid this week - especially towards the end. I’d have a jerkbait, cranks and a drop shot ready to go. I would not hesitate to throw a Mini Max chatterbait as well! Catfishing should start picking up as the water is warming. They should get a little more active! If you’re not getting bit in 20-30 minutes…move your bait!

Wilson Springs: Getting stocked regularly and fishing well! Powerbait, Dynamic Lures HD Trout and Ultralight Heavyweights jigs!!

Lake Lowell: No report this week.

Lake Cascade: Still have ice and they are still catching! Lots of cool nights ahead with warm days - could be slushy. Check in with Tackle Toms.

Owyhee River: Water is up but has been that way for a bit now so fish should be settled and eating. Hatches will still be midges and the occasional BWO. That will change here soon as things warm up…PMD’s and thicker hatches of BWO will get us off those stupid size 20 midges.

Owyhee Reservoir: Lots of water in the reservoir and reports of good crappie catches are starting to come in. Main lake points attached to decent sized coves seem to be holding the biggest schools. Customer found bunches of fish in 20-30’ and they were eating Big Bite Baits Swimon’s.

Duck valley: From the Tribal Website: SAME REPORT AS LAST WEEK!!

March, 2024 – Cold front to remain after the weekend ice blast dropped down from the Ruby Mountains in Nevada through and beyond Grasmere, Idaho. The severe weather temporarily shut down Idaho and Nevada state roads with due cause, as extreme gusts of high winds tore through blankets of falling sleet and snow reducing driving visibility to an absolute zero.  Vehicles were observed to have driven off the blacktop due to the lack of visibility.  Road conditions were almost impassible as wind pushed snow over and onto driving lanes with high drifts, up to four feet reaching across both lanes.  Freezing temperatures remain.

Both reservoirs have open top water, and are watercraft accessible.

Rainbow Trout activity at both reservoirs has been extremely high.

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Mixed reports! Some are on ‘em and some just aren’t. We have several sunny days coming up - I’d expect those to help us catch a few fish and I’d plan on them being closer to the top on those days. Hearing really good things about pink, chartreuse and white for dodgers…

Arrowrock Reservoir: Literally the same report as Lucky Peak…only exception is that a really good friend of the shop had a phenomenal day with the Black and Copper Godfather Kokabow Dodger.

Anderson Ranch: Sounds like Curlew is still not accessible but the dam is and guys are catching some really good kokanee already. I haven’t been able to get a lead on colors but my recommendation is something with pink in it. Lots of small trout being caught as well by guys trolling wedding rings alongside their hoochie rigs.

Local Ponds: Lots of trout stocking on the schedule should make for fast and fun action at many of the local ponds. For those that have bass, I’d expect fishing to start picking up. Senkos, chatterbaits and ned rigs are all good pond options!
