Fishing Reports
CJ Strike: Bass are biting. Been decent reports for good numbers of smaller, 1-2 pound smallmouth on Neds, drop shots and paddle tail swimbaits or Dry Creek curly tail grubs. One of my favorites from Dry Creek is the Melon Head curly tail grub. We have the Powerbait Lil Trooper in stock if you want a killer “goto” ned bait. Crappie fishing has been fair
Boise River: The river is fishing well for those throwing larger baits like rapalas and other jerkbait style baits. The Dynamic Lures HD Trout in the Rainbow Trout pattern caught several fish for a very good friend of the store who hadn’t thrown hard baits for trout. Chinook have been planted in the river and are being caught! An Idaho Rod and Reel ambassador reported catching a few on spinners and jigs. More being stocked soon - see details below.
Brownlee: Reservoir is 8’ from full and slowly going down. Fishing for bass has been very good but they have been smaller fish. The big ones have been a little bit trickier for sure. Good reports on the Z Man TRD Craws Ned rigged. I caught a few myself on a Keitech with a 3/16 head. Catfishing remains very good and the fish are still fairly shallow.
Swan Falls - Above the Dam: Fishing on the river remains easily the most predictable and productive. If it were me - just a tube and small swimbaits.
Swan Falls - Below the Dam: Same as Swan Falls Above the Dam.
Wilson Springs: Tough fishing due to weed cover. There is still clear water though and fish can be caught on nightcrawlers and small tube jigs.
Lake Lowell: Mixed fishing reports from Lowell this week. Some are killing it, others are not. The fish are spread out so move around and check the weeds, the weed edges and then the trees. I’d have a spinnerbait or chatterbait for the open water edges, a flipping bait for the trees and in the weeds and I’d have a topwater for the early morning. Pay attention to shade this time of the year…it can be a really good fish finder 😉
Lake Cascade: Not the easiest fishing right now but decent sized fish are still being caught. The smallmouth have been deeper and on gravel while largemouth have been shallow - but only early it seems. Drop shots for the smallies have been working and senkos for the green fish. I have not heard anything about perch or trout this week.
Owyhee River: Hoppers are hitting! Which means this place will be a little bit more packed than it usually is…but not in the middle of the day because of the heat. So there is your window to fish good spots potentially without the crowds. Drink lots of water and hit as many banks as you can.
Owyhee Reservoir: Decent reports from the Owyhee this week for smaller bass on Ned rigs and deep chatterbaits. Crappie fishing remains very consistent. Schools have been down around 25’ deep but shallower early in the morning and later in the evening.
Duck valley: Fishing remains good here. From the shore it’s been powerbait and crawlers and for the fly guys the good ol’ mohair leech on an intermediate sinking line is what I’d be using.
Lucky Peak Reservoir: Solid fishing from both Lucky Peak and Arrowrock right now - as long as you get out early! Looking at 30-35’ with Pinks and Oranges.
Arrowrock Reservoir: Launch at 5:30 to 6am - be done by 11. Or else have fun with the ski boats 😬
Anderson Ranch: Bass fishing has been slow and the reward hasn’t exactly been worth the work. If you are looking for bass - give this one a minute and maybe look elsewhere if you have the chance. Otherwise, try a carolina rigged craw and a ned rig. The Kokanee fishing remains fair. Fish are starting to push down deeper. This is the time of year where investing in a fish hawk temperature gauge can be very worth it. We are looking for 53 to 55 degree water for the most fish.
Local Ponds: Bass fishing for those that can get off the shore has been really solid. Lots of decent fish caught. From the banks - the weeds and moss are really making it tough in a lot of places.
Snake River - Catfishing: Catfishing has been really good. Fish are shallower and being caught on cut bait as well as chicken and kool aid.

New ARK Cobb rods are in stock. Very cool dark green Japanese Toray Carbon Fiber and a 5 Year Warranty…for less than $100. There’s a very good reason why ARK Rods have become the top selling rod in the shop since we brought them in…insane quality and value.
New Reins Baits are in stock. Reins is a Japanese company whose products I have been fishing for a few years after a business partner of mine from South Korea introduced me to them. You need to see these and I KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, just how effective these baits are.
Something very cool is coming to the Idaho Rod and Reel Customs line of products…The New “LINK” series of rods are in production! The prototypes have been tested and fished and the reviews are AMAZING! These are 1 piece, high modulus carbon fiber blanks built to my own personal standards and design. The line will include a Medium Power Spinning Rod, a Medium Power Baitcasting Rod, a Medium Heavy Baitcasting rod and a small run of limited edition JERKBAIT rods (if you know me, you know why 😄 ).
