Hook Points - Idaho's Fishing Newsletter

More fish caught this weekend than the previous!

Fishing Reports

CJ Strike: Bass fishing has picked up a bit! Give a blade bait a try for smallies and might be time to start flinging spinnerbaits for largies. Sturgeon fishing has been really good with cut bait and pickled baits. Trout fishing remains steady for those trolling Flicker Shads and other jointed baits.

Boise River: Fishing has been good. For those struggling - my advice would be to fish closer to Boise...

Brownlee: Reports of 37 to 40 degree water. Water is VERY LOW! Check water levels before you go. At the time of this publication, Moonshine is the only ramp in the water with Woodhead just a few feet out. Fish are being caught - jerkbaits in areas that have been in the sun the longest and Carolina rigs over shallow offshore humps. Good time to go and view some of the offshore structure that is usually underwater...

Swan Falls - Above the Dam: Decent water temps in the low to mid forties reported but not hearing a ton yet about fish being caught. If those temps hold up - Swan will be fishing well very soon.

Swan Falls - Below the Dam: Getting busier...Sturgeon are being caught below the dam. One Idaho Rod and Reel ambassador caught 2 fish on Octopus. Cats are being caught as well - closer to the Celebration Park end of things.

Wilson Springs: Fishing well - especially on the sunny days. Ultralight Heavyweights have not slowed down here!

Lake Lowell: Several fished it this weekend but I only heard about one fish caught there on a 3.3 Keitech. Not on yet - but will be soon!

Owyhee River: No Report.

Cascade Reservoir Perch/ICE: Still a few decent fishing reports coming from Cascade. Sounds like there was an earthquake reported! Crazy...

Horsethief Reservoir/ICE: Seeing really good reports from here again after a few down weeks. Sounds like small jigs and worms.

Duck valley/ICE: No report this week but has definitely been a hot spot.

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Little more open water! Guys aren't killing it but fish are being caught. Something with Orange in it seems to be the ticket for now.

Arrowrock Reservoir: Still icy.

Local Ponds: Time to start giving these a try. Because they are smaller bodies of water, they warm up before most everything else. I think you have a good chance to catch a largemouth right now in these ponds. I took my son out this weekend for a couple hours and landed 3, missed 3 on Jerkbaits and Chatterbaits.

After a couple of tough trips - Justin nailed a PIG! Persistence pays off! Said he caught it on a Shakey Head Wacky Rig with a Crankbait Trailer on a Ned Rigged Nail Weight...Something sounds fishy about that tip...Not sure I believe him.
