Summer Patterns....

Fishing Reports

CJ Strike: Crappie fishing remains fair - especially for those trolling. The narrows can be crowded! Be polite and aware of the other boaters around you. Bass fishing for smallmouth has been decent. Drop shots and tubes jigs seem to be producing the most bites. Some topwater action has been reported by an ambassador that fished up the snake river arm. Sturgeon fishing has slowed just a bit but they are certainly still biting. Crappie is catching the big ones.

Boise River: Fishing has been improving here especially for those willing to hike around a bit. We just got it several new Ultralight Heavyweights jigs - I guarantee those will get you bit!!!

Brownlee: Reservoir is full. Catfishing remains very good and they are being caught shallow. Bass fishing is steady as the smallmouth seem to be out of their post spawn grumpiness…Ned rigs, drop shots and topwater = not a bad fish catching strategy at all. Crappie have been a little tough to come by but those that are putting in the effort are rewarded with 14-15” fish! Trolling small plugs has been effective. Fish have been down around 20-30’.

Swan Falls - Above the Dam: Very consistent action. Look at dragging a tube later in the day and give the ol’ whopper plopper a try early and late!

Swan Falls - Below the Dam: Catfishing reports have been very good below the dam. Sturgeon fishing seems to have slowed just a little bit though they are still being caught. Bass fishing has been good. Ned rigs in the back eddies, texas rigged Nikko Craws and tube jigs have been doing the work.

Wilson Springs: A good friend of the shop Thomas Dealy has been doing well here! Keep it simple…worm, powerbait and salmon egg rigs always perform here. We just received a huge order of more Ultralight Heavyweights baits - they will crush it here!

Lake Lowell: Lots of mixed reports coming from Lowell this week. I personally spent a few hours here this week with a good friend of mine. While the frog was not performing like it usually does, flipping trees and weed edges caught fish for both of us.

Lake Cascade: Still getting good reports for smallmouth on drop shots and Ned rigs. Trolling for perch remains productive!

Owyhee River: The river is fishing well. Nymphs and streamers while nothing is hatching. Some guys might say its a bit early but I personally would have a few hoppers with me…just keep them a little on the smaller side. Not many fish hoppers like I do…if you want to hear about it, come talk to me directly…shhhhhh! It’s a secret 😉

Owyhee Reservoir: Lots of crappie are being caught. Trolling has been very effective. Try trolling small underspins and swimbaits. The bass fishing is frustrating. There are a few good ones being caught but they are definitely the exception.

Duck valley: Fishing remains really good! From the banks, powerbait has been doing the work. Trolling has been effective along the dam and out on the weed edges. If you’re trolling, keep an eye on the weed edge and get a good route going wherein you can keep the lures just above the weed edges. You will SMASH them if you can!!

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Kokanee fishing is definitely picking up. Most reports have been on fish at 12-20’. Oranges and pinks continue to perform! Don’t forget to tip your baits with Rod Bender corn…

Arrowrock Reservoir: Same report as Lucky Peak.

Anderson Ranch: Kokanee fishing is fair. Plenty of fish being caught. While not everyone is catching a limit, many are catching at least a few - and they’re big! A customer took me up on my Salmo recommendation from last week and sent me pictures of some really nice trout! Bass fishing has been tough and bigger fish have been tough to find. If you are going to target them, my advice would be to go with spinning rods and finesse techniques…Neds, drop shots, small tubes.

Local Ponds: Many of the ponds are starting to get pretty mossy but there are still fish to be caught. For those hunting some stocker trout - hit the fish stocking link below. For the bass guys…frogs!

Snake River - Catfishing: Catfishing has been really good. Fish are shallower and being caught on cut bait.
