Fishing Reports
CJ Strike: Crappie and perch fishing are the main targets for most right now and fishing has been decent for them! Good reports on those trolling with Flicker Shads in 15-25’ in the narrows and for those vertically fishing with small minnow baits on multi-rig set ups. Try a 2” Keitech Easy Shiner as one of those drop shot baits…Bass fishing remains tough but fishing slow and targeting later in the day seems to be your best bet. Best reports are still on blade style baits like the Damiki Vaults. Curious to see what happens with the cold weather we are predicted to have. Get a hold of me at the shop later in the week if you are heading out! Hopefully I’ll have more info by then!
Boise River: Very consistent action on the river! Small minnow style hard baits like the Rapala Shad Rap are good baits for covering water in the deeper tailout sections. Try light line to get the baits to dive a bit deeper. Never a bad idea this time of the year to look around the bridge pilings for back eddies and big trout. I am 100% not scared to throw a 4” jerkbait right now…if that is not in your repertoire, go with the ever reliable shrimp on a small jig head under a float.
Brownlee: Water levels are at 2066. Fishing remains tough at Brownlee for bass but its a great time of the year to catch big ones believe it or not and if you can find one, there is usually more - they frequently pile up on each other on the bottom this time of the year. Blade baits, 3.3 Keitechs and a Neko rig are all really good options right now. Get on the bottom, move ‘em slowly! Very few crappie reports but one customer mentioned they caught several smaller fish on a sunny 40 degree day - nothing over 10”. They caught them on a small jigging rap - love that bait!
Snake River: Off then on. Then off. Then back on. Who knows what you’re going to get but there have been reports of really good days in between a few not so good days. 3.3 Keitechs, a jerkbait and blade baits would be on my rods.
Wilson Springs: No report this week.
Lake Lowell: No report.
Motorized and Non-motorized boating are allowed April 15 to September 30. Human-powered boats are allowed 200 yards in front of the Upper and Lower Dams between October 1 and April 14. The rest of the lake is set aside for migrating and wintering wildlife.
Cascade Reservoir: Fishing has picked up considerably and while not everyone is finding jumbos - most are catching good numbers of decent sized perch and rainbow trout. Tip up rigs with nightcrawlers and worms from Tackle Toms as well as small Eurotackle Z Vibers were very effective for a good friend of the shop. They fished shallow and noted that if the bottom was clear - they didn’t catch anything. If they popped a hole and saw grass, they caught ‘em.
Horsethief Reservoir: Good ice and decent numbers of small trout are being caught. Jig heads with a little nightcrawler as well as small jigging spoons should do the trick!
Owyhee Reservoir: No report this week.
Owyhee River: No report.
Duck valley: Great ice fishing destination for really good sized trout! Powerbait and nightcrawlers work well here if you’re going to bait and wait. If you want to feel the bite - throw some metal at ‘em. Spoons work well as do the Eurotackle Z Vibers and T-Flashers. I have thrown flies here since I was a kiddo and caught tons of fish on San Juan worms under a bobb….I mean strike indicator (I got JOKES!)…give a Eurotackle Bloodworm on a drop shot a try - its the same idea as the San Juan worm.
Lucky Peak Reservoir: Good reports for rainbows and ok reports for Kokanee. White seemed to be the color of the week with both dodgers and baits. For those having success, it was on top - 80 to 100’ behind the boat. I am trying to get an update on the ramp conditions. If I hear anything, I will post it on Instagram and Facebook.
Arrowrock Reservoir: Only one report this week from a shop friend…”I froze.” Haha! That was all he said! If I get a report here for the week, I will post it on Instagram and Facebook.
Anderson Ranch Reservoir: No report this week.
Local Ponds: Stocker trout are available in most of the ponds right now. Take a look at the stocking report below. Try the Eurotackle Mummified Meal Worms under a float!
