CJ Strike: Fish are still biting - I wouldn’t say hot and heavy for everyone but some good fish still being caught. More trout reports than anything this week. Couple anglers had really good success trolling Kokabow Dodgers with pink hoochies as well as just old school wedding rings. Still positive reports on Flicker Shads and Shad Raps. I’d be 60-80’ behind the boat, experimenting with speeds between 1.5 and 2mph. Probably catch a few crappie this way as well though the anglers that I know of that had the best success were throwing soft plastics on jig heads and small 2” Keitech Easy Shiners in the narrows. Bass fishing has been decent either in the main bowl or quite a ways up the Snake River arm. Couple fish were caught on jigs but the best reports are coming from anglers with blade baits, spoons/Kastmasters, A-rigs and Keitechs. Lots of fish in 20-30’ - don’t forget to make a few shallow-ish casts, big cruisers are a thing!
Boise River: Steelhead are getting caught! Fly anglers fishing brighter colored nymphs under indicators are having quite a bit of success. If you tie - stonefly nymphs tied in PINK and TAN are secret bait of mine (until right now 🤣 ). Wading anglers are having success with soft beads, jigs and spinners. Tip em with shrimp and we sold quite a few Looney Coonies - several of which ended up in Steelhead mouths!
Fish were dropped at the following locations:
Glenwood Bridge
Americana Bridge
Below the Broadway Avenue Bridge, behind Boise State University
West Parkcenter Bridge
Barber Park
Brownlee: Current water level is 2066, 11’ from full and the reservoir is fishing well. Great reports from anglers throwing Keitechs, blade baits, drop shots and deeper diving jerkbaits like Staysee 90’s. I was there last week - saw some huge crappie schools and had a few bites that definitely felt like crappie on 3.3 Keitechs in 20-30’. We weren’t targeting them but I am confident we could have caught them with a smaller, slower offering. As it gets cooler - I like the vertical presentations of the jigging rap or just simple jig head and plastic minnow - add crappie nibbles!
Snake River: Lots of grass! Plenty of smaller fish to be caught. The IRR jig is still getting bit. A neko rig and a drop shot should be successful as well and if you can find cleaner water - a blade. You’re going to be cleaning grass of your stuff…just deal with it and keep casting!
Wilson Springs: No Report.
Lake Lowell: No Report.
Cascade Reservoir: Reports for perch are good. Trolling, blade baits and drop shot rigs with nightcrawlers are getting bit. Lots of fish around the island and golf course. I have not heard anything this week for bass. If you are targeting them, blades, Keitechs or Mayors from Crush City and a Carolina rig with a fluke are some baits I’d have rigged up.
Horsethief Reservoir: No report.
Owyhee Reservoir: Only reports for crappie this week. Smallish to medium sized fish on small underspins and trolling by the damwith Flicker Shads might net you the occasional trout.
Owyhee River: I encourage folks to wait a minute to fish here as there are lots of spawning Brown trout and we don’t want to disturb their redds. I spoke to Chris with Boise River Guides and he confirmed that their are tons of Browns spawning. I don’t get on a soap box very often but I have seen first hand and did quite a bit of research on habitat damage to spawning browns. Let’s leave them alone for a few weeks so we have a shot at good ones for years to come!!
Duck valley: CAN BUY PERMITS ONLINE!!!
Trolling flies on Mountain View is good when the weather is right!! A little breeze, GO!! Lots of breeze, stay home.
Lucky Peak Reservoir: Couple reports for anglers looking for a few Kokanee - no kokanee but several trout. Fish were roughly 10’ deep and were caught on small spin-n-glows and pink dodgers with orange hoochies behind them.
Arrowrock Reservoir: No Report
Anderson Ranch Reservoir: Small kokanee being caught for those that are willing to wrestle their boat into the water from what I was told!! Fish were 10-15’ deep - they caught them on both pink and white dodgers with wonderbread spinners from Kokabow.
Local Ponds: Lots of trout stocking! Powerbait and small chunks of nightcrawler are great ideas for these stockers. Check out the downtown Boise ponds for some bigger bass - glides and senkos!!
